Roasted Black Spanish Radish

Black Spanish Radish is a unique heirloom variety with roots dating back to 1548. Known for its earthy, spicy flavor, this radish is sharper than other varieties, making it a standout in salads when raw. However, when roasted, the spiciness mellows, creating a savory, tender side dish. If you prefer a milder flavor, simply peel off some of the outer skin before cooking.

Ingredients

  • From the Farm:

    • 1 bunch Black Spanish Radish

    • 1 Tbsp chopped herbs

    • (Optional) Salted herb butter, softened

  • Additional Ingredients:

    • 1.5 Tbsp olive oil (or your favorite oil for roasting)

    • 3/4 tsp salt

    • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (or set your air fryer to the same temperature).

  2. Prepare the Radishes: Trim the tops of the radishes, and if you prefer, cut the long roots into bite-sized pieces. Rinse the radishes thoroughly under cold water.

  3. Slice the Radishes: Quarter the radishes or cut them into 2-inch pieces. Toss them in a bowl with olive oil until fully coated.

  4. Season the Radishes: Add salt, pepper, and chopped herbs to the bowl. Toss everything together to coat the radishes evenly. Pro Tip (Skip the work and use melted Salted Herb Butter to coat radish before roasting)

  5. Roast the Radishes: Place the seasoned radishes on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast in the oven for 35-45 minutes, stirring at least once halfway through to ensure even cooking, until the radishes are golden brown and tender.

    Enjoy!

These roasted radishes make a wonderful side dish for savory dinners or can be enjoyed as a delicious breakfast item.
